Resources
If you’re volunteering with us or writing an affidavit, here are some resources that might help.
Who are our clients?
All of our clients have experienced some form of physical or psychological trauma in their home countries. They have fled to the US to escape the dangers in their homes.
Asylum Seekers
Asylum seekers are individuals who have experienced persecution in their home countries and have fled to another country for safety. In the US, asylum seekers must prove that they have a credible fear of persecution if they return to their home countries.
U-visas and T-visas
These visas are granted to individuals who are able to help law enforcement in an investigation against their perpetrators. U-visas are granted to people who have experienced violence and persecution, while T-visas are granted to victims of human trafficking.
Violence Against Women Act
The Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) is a comprehensive piece of legislation that increases protections for women experiencing domestic abuse and other forms of violence. Women from other countries can apply for asylum in the US through VAWA.
Writing an Affidavit
Istanbul Protocol
The Istanbul Protocol is a document released by the UN that outlines the international legal standards for conducting medical investigations of torture. We use this document as a guide for writing medical affidavits.
